What is a nurse-midwife?

A certified nurse-midwife (CNM) is a professional health care provider who is a registered nurse and has graduated from an advanced education program in midwifery accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CNMs must pass a national certification examination and meet strict requirements set by state health agencies. In Minnesota, CNMs can write prescriptions.

Follow-up evaluation of abnormal Pap smears or mammogram reports is provided in the grant with specified physicians.

Lactation Support Services

The midwives are lactation consultants and are available by phone or appointment for consultation concerning breastfeeding questions and problems. They coordinate an electric breast pump rental service, if needed for emergencies.
