Obstetrics Hospitalist Program
What is an Obstetrics (OB) Hospitalist Program?
St. Cloud Hospital has the only OB Hospitalist Program in Central Minnesota. OB hospitalists (laborists) are doctors who are in the hospital setting 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
At the St. Cloud Hospital Family Birthing Center, they:
- Triage, round and manage patients who will soon deliver
- Handle outside calls related to OB admissions, transfers and consults
- Assist with delivering babies
What type of training do OB hospitalists have?
These doctors have at least:
- Four years of medical school
- Three years of OB residency training
The OB hospitalist role is becoming more prevalent in U.S. hospitals as studies show they can provide consistency of care and improve patient outcomes.
