As a Level IV Trauma Center, CentraCare Health – Long Prairie’s Emergency Department delivers prompt, quality trauma care for the area. Minnesota’s Statewide Trauma System ensures that trauma patients get prompt access to the highest level of appropriate care.
Ambulance Services
Our ambulance service is staffed by fully trained EMTs who have undergone specialized training that allows them to perform a variety of procedures, including IV administration, advanced airway management and cardiac defibrillation.
First CALS Hospital
CentraCare Health – Long Prairie was designated a Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) hospital by a coalition of Minnesota health care organizations and individuals. Minnesota’s CALS program provides advanced life-support education to rural health care providers.
The CALS Hospital designation represents an institutional commitment to quality rural emergency medical care and recognizes the clinicians who have completed the education as well as the administrators who provided the infrastructure for this achievement. CentraCare Health – Long Prairie met the criteria at the highest possible level with 100% of nurses and provider staff trained in CALS. In addition, we have secured the recommended equipment and demonstrated commitment to the CAPS principles.

CentraCare Health - Monticello

As a Level IV Trauma Center, we are proud to provide high-quality emergency care. When you need immediate medical attention, you can count on:
- An average of less than 10 minutes that patients wait before being seen by a provider.
- A physician Hospitalist who directs the care of patients who are admitted to the hospital.
- A registered nurse dedicated to trauma care.
- InstyMeds 24-hour automated pharmacy for common emergency room prescriptions.
- An Advanced Life Support ambulance service to provide quality paramedic and EMT support at the scene of accidents and during patient transfers.
- A helipad is available on campus to provide emergency helicopter transport capabilities.

CentraCare Health - Paynesville
Highly trained emergency physicians and nurses are ready and waiting in our Emergency Care Center. You will experience immediate, effective care for any injury or illness — from cuts, coughs and broken bones to heart attacks and strokes.
CentraCare Health - Paynesville Hospital is designated as a Level IV Trauma Center, in cases of severe trauma, patients can be stabilized and immediately transported via ambulance or helicopter to a Level I trauma center.
The Paynesville Area Ambulance Service is on-call, to respond to emergencies. In addition to ambulance service, we also have a landing site for helicopters on our campus.
LifeLink has 6 medical helicopters strategically based throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin, with the primary response for Paynesville based in Hutchinson. Response time for trauma transports is approximately 18 minutes. LifeLink is an essential emergency response for critical emergencies such as cardiac and neurological injuries, and acts as a mobile intensive care unit. CentraCare Health - Paynesville is proud to provide this extension of emergency care through our hospital.
