Diagnosing Allergy or Asthma
Finding out what you are allergic to is an important first step to effective allergy treatment. Today, allergy testing is more convenient and accurate than ever before. When combined with a detailed medical history, allergy testing can identify the specific things that trigger your allergic reactions. Allergy testing helps to find allergies to pollen, molds, dust mites, animal dander, insect stings, foods and some medicines.
Asthma diagnosis often involves an allergist performing spirometry. This may also be done to monitor a patient who is being treated for asthma.
Treatment Options
CentraCare allergists understand that allergies can be aggravated by the air you breathe, the food that you eat or the substances that touch your skin so they work hard to help you pinpoint the triggers in your environment that are problematic for you. In addition to the environmental triggers, our physicians understand that genetics can play a big role in developing allergies as well. Whatever the cause or trigger, CentraCare allergists can help you treat or prevent your allergy and asthma issues.
Because you can't always avoiding allergens completely, immunotherapy (allergy shots) can be done to try to desensitize you to the substances that have been identified as triggers. Some allergic problems are efficiently treated by immunotherapy. These include life-threatening reactions to bee stings, allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and some cases of asthma.
During your diagnosis and treatment, our allergists work closely with your primary care provider to develop a plan that will help you better control your allergy and asthma symptoms and triggers and provide treatment option that work for you.
