Clinical Interests
Dr. Hwang specializes in shoulder surgery, with a special interest in arthroscopic surgery. Arthroscopy is outpatient, minimally invasive surgery done through very small incisions. In 2016, Dr. Hwang performed more than 300 shoulder arthroscopies treating rotator cuff tears, biceps tears, labral tears, instability and bone spurs. Shoulder replacement is another of Dr. Hwang’s interests. In 2016, he performed 70 shoulder replacements, including total anatomic, total reverse shoulder and total revision replacements. For appropriate patients, shoulder replacement surgery can be done as an outpatient. For all shoulder surgeries, Dr. Hwang has worked with anesthesia on a nerve block program which, if successful, minimizes post-operative pain for up to three days.
