    Our Heritage

The history of St. Benedict’s Senior Community is a long and colorful one. Our history dates back more than 100 years when the Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict opened St. Joseph’s Home. In the mid-1970s, the decision was made by St. Cloud Hospital officials to build St. Benedict’s Center, which opened in 1978. The residents from St. Joseph’s Home moved down the hill to the beautiful new long-term care facility.

Much growth and change have taken place at our St. Cloud location. The spectrum grew from serving nursing home residents to a flourishing campus of health care and housing options meeting the needs of more than 500 older adults. To better reflect this broadened scope, our name was changed to St. Benedict’s Senior Community, which is part of CentraCare Health. In 1999 the Monticello campus was opened providing 150 independent, assisted living and memory care apartments with services for seniors.
