Services
Specialized Diabetic Management Services
About 1 in 4 people over the age of 60 have diabetes. Living with diabetes can be effectively managed. At St. Benedict’s Senior Community – Monticello, nurses are available to help residents regulate their health. With age comes an increased risk for specific complications and unique challenges that require diligent care. Our health care professionals specialize in caring for residents with diabetes.
Registered nurses provide education about the self-management of diabetes, which is a key component in improving the health and quality of life for diabetics. One of the main goals is to control the blood sugar level by keeping it as close to normal as possible.
Every day can bring hurdles that a person must overcome and we are here to assist.
Nurses assist tenants with:
- Carbohydrate counting
- Blood sugar testing (to maintain the proper levels)
- Insulin administration (including sliding scale, also is provided by the staff)
Diabetes-related complications managed by Home Care nurses include:
- Circulation problems, especially in the feet
- Heart disease
- Hyper/Hypoglycemia
- Wound care
