Feeling Good MN’s Health Hero and Fun Bin Initiatives Kick Off Summer

Feeling Good MNFeeling Good MN, an initiative of CentraCare Health that works to improve health by changing policies, systems and environments, has introduced two new community programs this summer.

Health Hero

Every month, Feeling Good MN will recognize a local Health Hero — those who are inspiring others with their daily, healthy choices. Health heroes can be people who are taking steps to be healthier, a local company supporting the health of its employees or a community rallying together to improve health.

The first Health Hero winner is John Grether, a professor at St. Cloud State University (SCSU). John was nominated by his coworker, Julie Condon, who was inspired by his effort to ride his bicycle to work every day and to quit smoking after SCSU adopted a tobacco-free policy. Feeling Good MN’s Health Hero is made possible by McKay’s Family Dodge of St. Cloud, which sponsors the initiative. To nominate a Health Hero or to see John’s story, including the moment he was surprised with the award, visit www.feelinggoodmn.org/healthhero.

Fun Bin

The Feeling Good MN Fun Bin was created to encourage outdoor play among kids in the community to keep them active. The bin is a container chock-full of sporting equipment, games and toys, all free to use by kids and adults alike. The rules of the Fun Bin are simple: No. 1 Borrow an item, No. 2 Have fun and No. 3 Put it back when you’re done. To make sure the equipment is available to as many people as possible, all equipment should be returned to the Fun Bin the same day.

The Fun Bin made its debut in the Promise Neighborhood from June 16-22. The bin will move to various locations throughout the community and is scheduled to be at the following locations:

June 24-30: Pantown Park

30th Avenue N. & 10th Street North, St. Cloud

July 19: Summertime By George, Lake George (5-9 p.m.)

1101 7th St. S., St. Cloud

July 27: Lake George Neighborhood “Share Your Heritage Event” (6-8 p.m.)

St. Cloud Islamic Center, 712 17th Ave. S., St. Cloud

If you have a suggestion for where you’d like to see the Fun Bin this summer, email info@feelinggoodmn.org. All equipment and items in the Fun Bin were generously donated by Scheels of St. Cloud.
