Lt. Governor Smith to Attend Friday’s Farmers Market in Long Prairie
CentraCare Health Is Piloting New Projects to Meet the Growing Hispanic Population in Todd County
Lt. Governor Tina Smith will be on hand for CentraCare Health’s Farmers Market in Long Prairie on Friday, Sept. 23rd. At the event, CentraCare Health will be distributing hundreds of “market bucks,” sponsored by Mortenson Construction, enabling families to purchase locally sourced fresh fruits and vegetables.
This initiative is one just one example of those being launched by CentraCare Health to meet the growing Hispanic population in Todd County. Other examples include the Farmers Market, a CSA program and a healthy foods Bistro Café in its new medical facility, now under construction.
CentraCare is crossing language and cultural barriers to focus on wellness initiatives, and enlisting other members in the business community to keep such programs moving forward. Prior to beginning of construction of its new medical facility, CentraCare was taking extra steps to make certain it was created to meet the needs of a rapidly growing Hispanic population now accounting for one-third of the local residents.
Lt. Governor Smith will be at the Farmers Market at 2 pm. The market continues until 6:30 p.m. at CentraCare Health – Long Prairie, adjacent to the nursing home on 1st Ave S.E.
