Cultural Café Film Festival: ‘Something the Lord Made’

The feature film “Something the Lord Made” will be shown at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 18 in the St. Cloud Hospital Hoppe Auditorium as part of CentraCare Health’s Cultural Café Film Festival.

This film tells a story of a black man, Thomas, and white man, Blalock, who open the field of heart surgery while discovering how to attack the heart problem of Tetralogy of Fallot, also known as Blue Baby Syndrome. This discovery does not come easily as they are faced with racial discrimination. Thomas’ surgical skill is praised by Blalock, who insists that Thomas coach him during the first Blue Baby surgery. This does not go over well with others, but Thomas’ skill is “like something the Lord made,” and he must be present.

A door prize drawing will occur immediately after the film; you must be present to win.

Cultural Café Film Festival selections are presented on the third Thursday of every month with films hand-picked for their relevance to cultural issues in our community.
