Gravy – The Fat-Free Way
Recipe from the American Heart Association’s Low Salt Cookbook
Ingredients
- 3 cups broth (unsalted preferred – look for 250 mg sodium or less per cup)
- 1 tablespoon pepper corns
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup cold water
Directions
- Bring broth, peppercorns, rosemary and garlic powder to a boil.
- In the meantime, combine cornstarch with the cold water and stir to make a thin paste.
- Strain out the peppercorns and rosemary after 3 – 5 minutes of boiling and return to the heat.
- Add the cornstarch mixture to the boiling broth and whisk until it starts to thicken about 3 – 5 minutes.
- Add to your favorite meat or potatoes.
Yield: 10 servings (1 serving = 1/3 cup)
