After recovering from his prostate cancer surgery and radiation treatments in 2011, Jim Waltman, 66, from Swanville, still had blood in his urine and was in unbearable pain. Jim’s urologist from the Mayo Clinic diagnosed him with radiation cystitis and recommended he try hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to ease his pain and stop the bleeding.

“I was thrilled when I found out they offered HBOT in St. Cloud, just 45 miles from home,” Jim said. “I started receiving HBOT five times a week for three months; it made all the difference in the world.” Jim stated that his care at the CentraCare Wound Center was exceptional, his treatments painless.

“The staff became like a second family to me. I really got to know and trust them. They truly cared about me and my recovery. I would especially like to thank nurses Amanda and Stephanie who worked with me daily.”

Jim enjoys fishing with his grandson Max. Jim’s pain and eventually his bleeding stopped, allowing him to get back to doing the things he loves: his real estate appraisal business, fishing with his wife, Sally, hunting and spending time with his 11 grandchildren. He hopes to someday soon take a fishing trip to Alaska.
