Karlie's Fund for Reach Out & Read
Karlie’s Fund for Reach Out & Read helps to place books in the hands of young children — and inspires parents to read and share the beauty of communication and language development. The fund was established by Karlie Geiser Hobson’s family after her tragic death in a car accident in 2012. Karlie left behind her husband, Jeremy; parents Dr. John & Jeanne Geiser of St. Cloud; sister Kelly and brother-in-law Matt Woods and their sons of Sartell.
Karlie was an avid reader at a very young age. After graduating from Technical High School in St. Cloud and completing her master’s degree in speech pathology from the University of Oregon, she became an admired and well-respected speech pathologist in Eugene, Ore., where she was Director of Speech at the Eugene Hearing and Speech Center from 2008-2012.
Karlie worked tirelessly with children who were deaf and hard of hearing, autistic, non-verbal, those with cochlear implants and more. She empowered her patients to communicate despite physical or mental disability while helping them to reach their full potential. She inspired her patients to try harder through her words of encouragement.
It is her family’s desire to share Karlie’s love of language and speech with everyone, especially children and parents.
Through the Reach Out & Read program, CentraCare Clinic’s pediatric providers give children from age 6 months to 5 years a new book at every well-child clinic visit. These books enable parents to make reading aloud together a daily activity.

School & Sports Physicals
Don’t forget to schedule your child’s school and sports physicals to ensure they are completed before sports practice and school begin. It is best to schedule the physical early in the summer.
School physicals are required before children start kindergarten and 7th grade and before participating in any high school sporting activities (and every two-three years thereafter).
