Description

Change can be stressful, and changes related to becoming a parent or expanding a family are no different. While on this journey, you may will feel a range of emotions and will experience both ups and downs. For these reasons, CentraCare now offers two online support groups on the topics of “Family Wellness” and “Your Growing Baby.” At these support groups, you will connect with other parents and get access to helpful tools and resources without the need to leave the comfort of your home.

These live, online support groups are for parents of babies from the newborn stage up to 12 weeks of age. Using WebEx, live instructors will provide both education and support. A series of five total support group sessions will be offered, with each session focusing on a different topic. Sessions will take place Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

This online support group focuses on infant development and milestones. We are joined each week by Licensed Parent Educator Sara McKeever, from Sauk Rapids – Rice Public Schools, brought to us through a generous grant from the Morgan Family Foundation. Sara will give a short presentation to help you learn about your baby and how you can support baby’s development. The bulk of the time will be spent in open discussion, so come with questions!

Becoming Family: Your Growing Baby

Thursdays, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Week 1 – Your Child’s Job

Your baby’s job is to get needs met with the assistance of adults. Today, we will focus on meeting those needs and building trust.

Week 2 – Learning About Your Baby

This week we will dig into getting to know the newest member of your family. Each baby is an individual with a unique temperament, such as sensitive, easygoing, demanding or content. Each parent is also unique. We will explore the things that make the relationship you have with your baby one of a kind.

Week 3 – Talking to Your Baby

How do you feel talking to your infant? For some parents conversing with a baby comes naturally and for others it takes effort. The time you spend talking to your baby is valuable. We will talk about the when, why and how of talking to a baby.

Week 4 – Your Baby’s Brain

The first three years of life are the most active for human brain development. Learn the basics of how your baby’s brain is developing and how you can ensure you are doing what you can to encourage it.

Week 5 – A Healthy Home

Babies grow fast! We will spend this last session looking forward to changes in the months ahead. How can you prepare for the changes that will take place in safety, routines and relationships?
