CentraCare Health – Monticello Receives Minnesota Department of Health Designation as Stroke Ready Hospital

CentraCare Health – Monticello has been recognized by the Minnesota Department of Health for its preparedness to evaluate, stabilize and provide emergency treatment to patients with acute stroke symptoms.

In 2013, the Minnesota Legislature authorized the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to designate hospitals in Minnesota as “stroke hospitals.” The designation recognizes a hospital’s commitment to stroke care through staff education, 24-hour a day CT scanner availability and the ability to connect stroke patients to an interventional neurologist.

“We are proud to receive this designation from the Minnesota Department of Health,” said Steve Schrupp, RN, Emergency Services Manager at CentraCare Health – Monticello. “Due to a national commitment to improve stroke care, stroke has dropped from being the third leading cause of death in the United States to the fourth cause. The Minnesota Department of Health’s stroke initiative for hospitals is one example of how we are working together to improve outcomes for our stroke patients. Our staff, including physicians, nurses and our emergency medical services team, are committed to implementing new technology and participating in continuous education to provide the best stroke care, close to home.”
