St. Cloud Hospital Achieves Recognition for Workplace Support of Breastfeeding

St. Cloud Hospital has received the Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Recognition Award from the Minnesota Breastfeeding Coalition. The award is given to maternity hospitals in Minnesota that provide support for employees who are breastfeeding.

St. Cloud Hospital has been a strong proponent of breastfeeding and offers private lactation spaces for employees, adequate time for moms to express milk and a team of lactation resource nurses in the Family Birthing Center. Nearly 150 calls per month come in to their phone line.

St. Cloud Hospital recently started a free program called MILK and COOKIES Café to answer mothers’ questions about crying, sleeping and feeding. The mothers are encouraged to take their babies to the session that is co-facilitated by a lactation resource nurse and a pediatric nurse. Mothers provide milk for their babies, either by breast or bottle, while enjoying cookies provided by hospital.
