CentraCare Health - Sauk Centre Recognized for Excellence in Patient Safety

CentraCare Health - Sauk Centre has been recognized by the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) for superior performance in patient safety as part of its Hospital Engagement Network. The MHA Hospital Engagement Network is focused on reducing hospital-acquired conditions by 40 percent and readmissions by 20 percent.

CentraCare Health - Sauk Centre has committed resources to improve on eight of the 10 focus areas, including: adverse drug events, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central-line-associated blood stream infections, injuries from falls and immobility, obstetrical adverse events, pressure ulcers, preventable readmissions, surgical site infections, venous thromboembolism and ventilator-associated pneumonia. It was among 30 hospitals recognized by the MHA for demonstrating high performance on three or more hospital-acquired conditions.

“CentraCare Health - Sauk Centre is helping to further strengthen patient safety in Minnesota and contributing to the state’s well deserved reputation for high quality health care,” said Lawrence Massa, MHA president and CEO.

The hospital has implemented staff and patient education, developed tools to identify patients at risk and modified policies and procedures for all eight focus areas. One example of a unique safety tool developed by the Safe from Falls Committee was the placement of a ceiling tile above the patient’s bed reminding them to “Call Don’t Fall.”

“CentraCare Health - Sauk Centre is committed to the continued work on the patient safety initiatives. We appreciate the leadership and support that the Minnesota Hospital Association has provided to help us to achieve these common goals,” said Del Christianson, CentraCare Health – Sauk Centre, administrator
