BLEND Receives 2013 Sustainability Award

BLEND (Better Living: Exercise and Nutrition Daily) received the 2013
St. Cloud Area Sustainability Award from the City of St. Cloud on April 21 at the Sustainability Expo. The St. Cloud Area Sustainability Award recognizes individuals, organizations, institutions, businesses or projects that encourage or demonstrate the successful implementation of sustainability (reducing waste and use of resources) in Central Minnesota and serves as an inspiration for others to do the same.

BLEND is a coalition of medical professionals, policy makers, health care advocates and parents who are committed to improving the health of children throughout Central Minnesota by reducing the epidemic of childhood obesity. The project is funded by the CentraCare Health Foundation and partners with a large group of medical, educational and non-profit organizations. The coalition was initiated in 2006 and focuses on physical activity, nutrition, the medical community and advocacy efforts to assist in creating sustainable, systemic changes in schools, communities, worksites, health care organizations and the built environment to make it easier for youth and families to incorporate healthy behaviors into their daily lives.
